Forging

MAN Group member KimberMills International is a specialist metal forging company with three production facilities based in the UK, Poland, and India. KimberMills offer forgings, drop forgings, hammer forgings, press forgings and a number of other services closely related.

These services include, and complete a full service forging solution: CNC machining, coining and cutting, die & tool manufacture and testing and certification services.

Forged products delivered by KimberMills are many and varied, from bodies, brackets and shafts, chains, nuts, bolts, pins and rings to stub axles, pipe fittings and more complex forged parts such as cutting tools.

Forging is a manufacturing process involving the shaping of metal using localised compressive forces. The blows are delivered with a hammer or a die. Forging is often classified according to the temperature at which it is performed: cold forging, warm forging, or hot forging.

Why use MAN Group for forging?

KimberMills International constantly looks to improve its processes, after advances in manufacturing techniques used in the production of tooling improves the prediction of metal flow, allowing for optimal material usage. This means that the KimberMills process will provide flexibility, reduce material usage and machining costs, ultimately improving lead times while keeping the cost of production down.

Furthermore, KimberMills strive for efficiency, with the ability to use simulation software for finite element analysis allowing the company to improve its understanding of metal flow and allows the prediction of grain flow. Forging defects such as folds and underfill can be detected prior to any material being used, reducing waste and improving lead times on all orders.

Wide range of forging materials

Depending on the requirements of the finished part, KimberMills can manufacture forgings under numerous material types. The range of materials includes:

Air cooled materialsCopper
Alloy steelsDuplex & Super Duplex
AluminiumInconel
Carbon steelsStainless steels

Full service forging solution

Technical capabilities
Sizes from as small as 0.025 Kg and up to 500.0 Kg
CAD/CAM combined enables quick creation of designs and production information accurately
Simulation software uses finite element analysis
Capability to predict grain flow and forging defects such as folds or underfill
Software that allows possible predictions of premature die failure, enabling optimal die design
Analysis of forging and die temperatures and the transfer of heat between stations can be predicted giving the optimal forging process.
Many customers request the recreation of old parts. KImberMills is able to adhere thanks to retention of traditional draughting techniques which can be converted to CAD programs

Quality
Quality and testing is a central part of the KimberMills ethos. With accreditations including ISO9001:2008, ISO-TS 16949:2002, AS9100, IIP-2000 and ISO EN 14001:2000, you can be confident in a high quality product that is manufactured to exacting standards.
